Dear Educator,

You simply can not sit back and expect a child to love writing when all they are faced with is boring composition work in Language Arts class or through 15 minute "sound bites" exercises that simply mark off time and never give kids a chance to be immersed in a genre or writing style.
How many things do you learn in your adult life with less than an hour and a handout sheet? We would never expect anyone to learn say, auto repair or computer programming in this manner, yet we so often throw away our children's precious desire to learn by short changing them with "fluff" and time wasting exercises that result in just a worksheet to be thrown away when clean up time arrives.
As a lifelong writer, I know how to create that spark in your child that will grow to a fire within, loving the written word and the whole creative process within.
You must nurture and immerse the child in good, redemptive learning and guide them to the joys of the creative process. It doesn't take a Ph.D. to see that children love creative learning processes, yet we tend to stifle them at a young age, forcing them into the confines of "proper English rules" and learning how to diagram sentences and exploring the subtle nuisances of the English language.
Isn't it ironic that we usually don't introduce them to "creative writing" until high school, missing out on the wonderful years of fresh and vibrant creativity that younger children possess!
